Why checking now is worthwhile

Windows 11 places higher demands on your PC, above all on the processor, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. The check tests the key points in one minute and shows where you should look for yourself.

14/10/2025

Since then, Windows 10 has no longer received support or security updates from Microsoft.

12/10/2027

Until then, Windows 10 PCs belonging to private customers receive security updates once they have signed up to Microsoft's ESU programme.

TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot: how to check

Your browser cannot read either of them. With the tools built into Windows, it takes a minute.

Check TPM 2.0

1. Press Windows key + R.
2. Enter tpm.msc and select OK.
3. Under ‘TPM Manufacturer Information’, ‘Specification Version’ shows 2.0.
If Windows reports that no compatible TPM was found, it may simply be switched off.

Check Secure Boot

1. Press Windows key + R.
2. Enter msinfo32 and select OK.
3. In the System Summary, ‘BIOS Mode’ shows UEFI and ‘Secure Boot State’ shows On.

Switched off? Here is how to switch it on

On Windows 10: Settings › Update & Security › Recovery › Restart now, then Troubleshoot › Advanced options › UEFI Firmware Settings › Restart. Where the switches are is explained in your PC manufacturer's manual.

Something missing? Here is what you can do

  • TPM or Secure Boot is off: Often both are simply switched off. Switch them on in the UEFI firmware settings and check again.
  • Not enough memory or storage: Both can be upgraded on many PCs. Ask your PC manufacturer or a retailer.
  • Processor too old: Then your PC is not approved for Windows 11. In this case, Microsoft recommends a new PC.

Frequently asked questions about the Windows 11 check

Answered briefly.

What does the Windows 11 check cost?

Nothing. The check is free and needs neither sign-up nor download.

What happens to my details?

The check runs only in your browser. We do not store your details. If you have agreed to web analytics, we measure how the page is used, as we do on all pages.

How do I check whether my PC has TPM 2.0?

Press the Windows key and R, enter tpm.msc and select OK. Under ‘TPM Manufacturer Information’, ‘Specification Version’ must show 2.0. If Windows reports that no compatible TPM was found, it may simply be switched off.

My PC is not suitable. What now?

If only TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot is missing, you can often switch both on in the UEFI firmware settings. On Windows 10: Settings › Update & Security › Recovery › Restart now, then Troubleshoot › Advanced options › UEFI Firmware Settings › Restart. Where the switches are is explained in your PC manufacturer's manual. If the processor is too old, your PC is not approved for Windows 11. Not sure? Write to us, we are happy to help.

Does the check also work on a phone or Mac?

Yes. On a phone, a Mac or another device, you answer the questions about your PC yourself. It is easiest on the PC that Windows 11 is going to run on: there, the check reads the values itself.

How long will Windows 10 still receive updates?

Support for Windows 10 ended on 14/10/2025. Security updates are now only available through Microsoft's ESU programme, until 12/10/2027 for private customers.

How do I find out which processor my PC has?

Open Settings › System › About. Under ‘Device specifications’, the model is shown next to ‘Processor’. Whether it is on Microsoft's list is shown by the PC Health Check app.

What does the PC Health Check app show?

Microsoft's app checks all requirements on Windows 10 PCs, including processor, graphics card and storage. Windows Update also shows, under Settings › Update & Security › Windows Update, whether your PC is ready for Windows 11.
