Use the open source R integration for advanced analytics. This version of Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Standard is licensed by Server/CALs. The server/CAL licenses are worthwhile if you need few access licenses and can precisely determine the accessing users or devices. On the server side, one license is required for each operating system environment (virtual or physical) in which a SQL Server instance is running. The number of SQL Server instances installed does not matter. You can install and run multiple SQL Server Standard instances within one Windows Server instance (corresponds to an operating system environment) with one license. The CAL part of the server/CAL license model works in the same way as Exchange, SharePoint, etc. There are user and device CALs for different requirements.
